The South Dade News Leader continues its long-standing tradition as the primary weekly newspaper of Homestead, Florida. 1995–1999

Expansion of community coverage, including features on local government, schools, agriculture, and South Dade small businesses. Increased focus on South Dade’s growth following massive post-Andrew redevelopment. Continues strong print distribution across South Miami-Dade.

2000 - 2005

Modernizes layout and printing

Modernizes layout and printing processes as newspapers nationwide begin transitioning into partial-digital workflows. Introduces more color printing and updated graphic styles. Strengthens reputation as a trusted source for city meetings, school board updates, police news, and community spotlights.

2006–2010

Enhances community engagement through local event listings, church announcements, and business advertisements. Expands editorial coverage of Homestead Air Reserve Base, Everglades National Park activities, and regional development.

2011–2015

Launches an early digital presence to make content more accessible online. Provides increasing coverage of Homestead’s rapid population growth and economic expansion. Maintains uninterrupted weekly publication, continuing its legacy as one of Miami-Dade’s longest-running newspapers.

2016–2020

Strengthens digital distribution, including e-editions and online news updates. Becomes a key local voice during South Dade’s major events—hurricanes, elections, community milestones, and public safety issues. Continues featuring local businesses, non-profits, education news, youth sports, and community achievements.

2021–2023

Expands online readership as more residents move to digital platforms. Produces in-depth coverage of Homestead’s growth, downtown revitalization, and South Dade development projects. Maintains its reputation for trusted, accurate local journalism in a time when community newspapers nationwide are declining.

2024

Marks 30 years of continuous publication since 1994, part of over a century of operation (founded in 1913). Implements more digital upgrades and continues publishing weekly print editions. Strengthens community partnerships and expands coverage of local events, schools, and public safety.

2025

Remains an essential news source for South Dade residents. Continues offering print, online, and e-edition formats. Focuses on hyperlocal coverage—government, community events, local businesses, public service stories, and human-interest features.
